If you drive north on Hwy 101, formerly Hwy 1, north of San Francisco, you can come across the Russian River pouring into the Pacific Ocean, as I did in 2006 (not the first time). If you do not know about the history of the place, it is the most southern outpost Russia had on the Pacific Coast. The true tales of the region fill books and imaginations to this date. It is an ever changing vista.
